Work-Based Learning (WBL) provides students with real-world experiences through internships, job shadowing, mentorships, and other career-related opportunities with local businesses and organizations. It helps students apply what they learn in the classroom to real work environments, building valuable skills and career awareness. In Lyon County School District, WBL is important because it connects students to local industries, supports career readiness, and helps develop a skilled workforce for our communities. It also strengthens partnerships between schools and employers, creating meaningful pathways from education to employment.

Nevada Department of Education: Work-Based Learning

LCSD PAES Labs

The PAES® Lab (Practical Assessment Exploration System) is a hands-on, simulated work environment used in schools to help students explore and develop job skills across a variety of career areas, such as business, technology, construction, and service industries. Designed to mimic a real workplace, students are treated as employees and complete structured tasks while learning essential work behaviors like following directions, problem-solving, and staying on task. PAES Labs are especially valuable for students with special needs, as they provide practical experience, assess employment readiness, and support transition planning for life after high school.
